About stem by stem

8-10 Church Street in Folkestone has been a florist shop
for over 100 years and we hope to continue this amazing service for many years to come. Stem by Stem will soon be three!

The shop itself is an interesting example of Victorian shop architecture and is set in the heart of the oldest part of Folkestone near the 13th century church of Saint Mary and St Eanswthye. Local legend has it the old garden at the rear of the shop formed part of the convent grounds founded by St Eanswythe in the ninth century.

The business is now owned by Tanya Henton. Originally from Sussex, she settled in London and worked as a stockbroker before retraining in the more creative career of floristry! She set up a wedding flower business and taught floristry for a number of years before moving to Kent and buying Chittendens the florist in Folkestone.

Our aim is for an environmentally friendly business, we source local and UK grown flowers and plants where possible, stocking fairtrade flowers, locally produced gifts and by using biodegradable packaging and recycling our waste we try to limit our carbon footprint.

We want to provide the freshest flowers for every occasion, happy or sad, on impulse or for that special celebration.

We are open 9-5 Monday to Saturday. Pop in and say hello!
